Tandem / Series

Introduction:

The object was simple : to leave by bicycle and ride as far east as possible. From May 2001 to November 2002, across 17 countries (more than 18,000 kms), we are going to make an adventure of wandering and live with the intoxication of movement.

Trying to be unprejudiced (it's hard!) and at their disposal, we will often be invited in by each evening's victim, those whom we'd asked to pitch a tent in their garden.

The second-hand cameras we had taken on this escapade, at first a little complicated for Thomas to use, became more precious. In the morning, just as we left, he was in the habit of taking a souvenir portrait of our hosts, in black and white.

In Florence, perhaps in reaction to so much beauty, the crowds and the heat, he was tempted to throw his film and his cameras in the Arno. Finally, he kept on, only in color and without any obligation to his notebook.

Little by little, photography revealed itself as a way of meeting people and of knowing certain things (about people, places, one's own self, ...) This activity allowed him to deepen his reflections, thoughts that a trip like this inevitably stir up.

Back home, he feverishly developed the film. Here are some pictures from it.

Helen, June 2004 (This series was exhibited at Toulouse during the Manifesto Festival in 2004 and was shown between the 23rd to the 26th of October 2008 during the European movie festival of Gaillac, France.)
