Hosts of Chile

Introduction:

Since our first cycling trip to India in 2001 (see the Tandem series), we are used to taking "souvenir photos" of the people who give us hospitality.

Travelling by bike with a tent, apart from saving money (which is not negligible, our budget being about 5 euros per day on average), has the great advantage of making it easier to meet the locals. One evening in the home of a lonely person, the next day in a rather well-to-do family or in the home of one who is in dire straits, for example, allows us to better understand the places and times we are going through. Almost every day is a new story, and of course there are differences from one country to another (but less and less, it seems!). It's not always easy, but sometimes very strong relationships are born from the few hours we spend together. And of course, the next day when we drive, it gives us a lot to think about the country, the people, ourselves, and also about the big questions of hospitality and its opposite: hostility (1) (2).

Once again, we would like to thank all the people who helped us during the two months of the trip and the almost 2,000 km we covered from Santiago de Chile to San Pedro de Atacama.

Abrazos Muy fuerte!
